London Lessons #2

Sushi is a big thing here

At both ends of the building I work are sushi restaurants, at lunch my office stinks of some fancy marinade or noodle soup and I've begun noticing just how many places there are that offer sushi. I'm allergic to nuts so I never stray from food I 100% know and trust (think pizza, pasta, beans, sausages) this, coupled with raw fish kinda freaks me out. I think (judging from my month's experience) that sushi is seen as the healthy option, but as I'm not a fan rice I'd rather sit at my desk and scoff chocolate bars and crisps.

Living a fairly (read: very) sheltered life until university I just thought that sushi was something really posh people ate when having a 'Crazy Friday', a sophisticated taste of the exotic if you will. Well I was wrong, London is big on sushi, maybe I will get a starter little taster pack from Sainsburys, but while the doughnut aisle is opposite, there isn't much hope for me...

  1. I always thought I wouldn't like Sushi but then I visited Yo Sushi one time I was in London and now I'm hooked! I'm vegetarian so can't comment on the raw fish type but the vegetable ones are lovely!

  2. I feel the same way about it :) It's everywhere here where I live as well so maybe I'll be inspired by you and give it a go :)

  3. I actually really like sushi. I do think that it's sort of an acquired taste, I had to try it a couple of times to like it. Whether you'll like it or not, I think it's definitely worth a try. If you don't like it, never lay hands on sushi again lol.

  4. I tried sushi for the first time last week - I really liked the ones with the tuna and prawn fillings but the ones with only rice in were a bit bland! (And do't get me started on the salmon ones - yuk! - but that's probably just me cos I hate salmon!)

Mine were from Waitrose but I bet it would taste nicer at one of those fancy sushi restaurants!

  5. I've never tried sushi and never want to lol! It's just the thought of it being raw fish!

  6. Raw fish... just those two words make sushi a big no no for me. But then, I'm not a londoner.. :)

  7. Oh gosh... I am absolutely certain that sushi is the food of the devil. BLOODY NORAH, it is brutal. Brutally disgusting and awful! I'm kind of appreciating the panda head though, if it wasn't made from raw fish it could almost pass off as cute....

  8. I don't get what the big thing is about Sushi, it's raw fish for god sake! Good luck with trying it, I'd much rather have a doughnut though! I'm new to your blog and loving it, definitely following! XxxX

  9. hahahaha! I love sushi, I have it a few times a week (uh oh mercury poisoning?) and I am seriously addicted. While in Europe it was one of the things I missed, the wonderful sushi at home! YOM YOM YOM!
