Batman (1966)

Last weekend I went to see The Dark Knight Rises, it was good, really good. To be honest, my personal highlight was the beauty and acting of Joseph Gordon Levitt. I did all the classics and gasped, jumped, squealed and cried my way through the film. Lee likes to point out how much time I spent gripping his arm/hand.

I've enjoyed Christopher Nolan's trilogy, it's dark, goopy and serious, it does to Batman what has never quite been managed with Superman and what kind of failed with Spiderman. I have to admit, my heart lies with the Batman film of 1966 which sees Adam West cast as the Caped Crusader. I love the cheesy 'pows' and 'whacks' which light up the screen whenever there is a fight scene. I love how Batman's eyebrows are drawn on his mask in what appears to be Tipp-Ex and how everything is prefaced by "bat"  e.g. the Bat-Spot Analyser and Electronic Hair Bat-Analser. I love Robin's cheesy exclamations in the face of danger:

Holy oleo!

Holy priceless collection of Etruscan snoods!

Holy atomic pile, Batman!

The baddies won't scare you in this film, they're cheesy, camp and almost nonsensical. The Riddlers riddles make absolutely no sense, The Penguin has the best laugh of any bad guy, and you can see The Joker's moustache underneath his white face paint. They have cronies who  seem to run into Batman's punches and mess things up on purpose. This film has all the elements of success, and compared to the shit Batman and Robin starring George Clooney, it is Oscar worthy.

All in all, I just wanted to dedicate a post to one of the campest, funniest and all round awesome film's I've had the pleasure to watch, the limited edition DVD sits proudly in my collection.

Do you have any guilty pleasure films?
Ever seen Batman from 1966?
