The Day I Met Caitlin Moran

I'm back!

Lots of stuff has happened so I'll break it down and spread the news out, don't say I never treat you to anything.

On the 17th October (forever etched in my mind) I went to Brighton after work and saw my one true love - Caitlin Moran. This evening was arguably more exciting and romantic than the 18th which was mine and Lee's four year anniversary.

I went by myself as I had two tickets but no one I knew wanted to go/could get there. Sometimes you have to do these things for yourself though, being alone meant I could lap up every moment of her interview (by the cool Alexis Petridis), she was funny, hungover and swore frequently. What more could I want? After the talk, which lasted about an hour and contained anecdotes about celebrities and news of her future TV show and film of How to be a Woman I went and queued alone for an hour and a half to speak to her and get my book signed. This may well have been the best day of my life. Not even a joke. We had a conversation which went along these lines:

Me: 'Oh I'm dressed very formally for this'
CM: 'No! You look lovely, like you're going to rock the boardroom!'

Then I got a bit overwhelmed and told her about how I had come straight from London to Brighton, as I had forgotten we were getting a flat when I bought the tickets.

CM: 'Where were you before London?'
Me: 'Burgess Hill for a bit'
CM: 'Oh! I had friends who lived there, they didn't like it'
Me: 'Yea it wasn't for me either, a bit small'

Which resulted in this unique book signing:

Sorry to anyone in Burgess Hill, it was just a little bit too small, and a little bit too old.

  1. Haha that's awesome, and I admire your dedication to stand that long! Though I probably would have done the same if it was for an author I liked. Can you imagine the queues for JK Rowling?!

Though one question, what's the first word after your name? Scram? Scream?

  3. Oh Becca your posts always put the biggest smile on my face, I seriously need to meet you one day!! I've always thought that Burgess Hill sounded pretty boring :P I've never heard of this lady but she sounds incredible! Good on you for going on your own - I really want to get more independent and confident with things like that.
    Love Holly x
