Bec vs Pinterest: Cookie Monster Cupcakes

[Source]
In my new series: Bec vs Pinterest I'm going to try and take on a Pinterest challenge every week. I'll pick an image, whether it is baking, nail art or craft and try to see how easy it is in reality. Although I love Pinterest, I am quite a sceptic, and think it does build up unrealistic expectations.

This week I challenged myself to the Cookie Monster cupcake. One of my all time favourite pages on the Internet is the Buzzfeed 'nailed it' page and the Cookie Monster cupcakes on there are hilarious!

My attempts came out alright I think, I baked 12 but got so bored icing them that I stopped at 7, then I dropped one on the floor... The main problem is getting the cookie into the mouth slot, it never seemed to be wide enough, causing me to bellow many expletives and create a 'cookie graveyard' for all disused pieces. My icing also turned an unexpected teal colour, I blame the sick natural icing sugar I had in the cupboard, I knew I should have gone as processed  as possible.

To make the cakes I just whipped up some vanilla cupcakes, made some buttercream icing and bought a heck of a lot of chocolate. The fur effect on the icing is desiccated coconut which I dyed blue and then rolled the iced cupcake in. The eyes are choc chips on milkybar buttons and the mouth a Maryland cookie, although they are little fat...

Overall I'd say they're worth a go, they look pretty awesome sat on my kitchen table. If you've got more patience than me then I recommend it. If not, just know that 6 was enough to make my face a similar expression to the Cookie Monster's.

I used this video as a tutorial.

  4. These look soooo good! Going to give these a try next weekend - but I may just use lots and lots of bright blue icing instead of sprinkles / grated coconut :)
