Bec vs Pinterest: Crochet Hot Water Bottle Cover

This weekend I didn't have any plans and as the clocks went back I went for a proper winter activity - crocheting a new hot water bottle cover. I have a mini hot water bottle so I knew it wouldn't take too long to make. I've never crocheted anything apart from granny squares before so this was quite an exciting challenge.

It took me both days of the weekend to do and I had to use a couple of YouTube tutorials to get through some of the ribbed stitches and decreasing. I used a whole ball of thick wool and a 5mm hook; it is pretty chunky so takes a while for it to warm up! I'm so pleased with it though, I love the dark pink colour and the uniformity of the stitches.

I got the pattern from here. Sometimes I did feel they kind of left me to it, especially with the joining up, but I think that is just because I'm a needy crocheter who needs constant reassurance. Obviously I'm not going to get that following an internet pattern! Other than that it is a brilliant project for beginners, I made minimal mistakes and recommend it to all!

  1. it looks lovely and snuggly! And, to be honest, it's much nicer than the original! I prefer this colour and your little added rose is v.cute. Good on you for doing something productive with your weekend, I'm feeling a little bit guilty for spending most of mine greatly hungover in bed. x

  7. Wow this looks absolutely amazing! I love the colour of it and the rib is so cute! I've been crocheting a toy giraffe for a baby recently which has been a lot of work. I just need to sew it up now and then I'll blog about it. Fingers crossed it will be as good as your crochet! XxxX
