The New Forest & Wild Ponies

On the Sunday of Couples Retreat we headed into the New Forest to get a pub lunch and check out the wild horses. We had to wait until mid-afternoon due to the heavy rainfall all morning which meant a nice relaxing Sunday morning, which I particularly enjoyed.

I had never been to the New Forest before. We visited the village of Burley which was tiny, with a large amount of shops selling tat with wild horses just wondering around the roads. At the beginning of the lunch I just stared out at the ponies who were walking up and down the roads. We had a pub lunch (scampi and chips for me) and laughed at the appalling service from the waitress who presented the ham hock meal by saying "and who has this one? Bacon?"

We needed to walk off the huge meals so headed up into the field above and watched some deer. Then up into the forest a bit more to hunt down some wild ponies. When we found them they were just standing there in a clearing eating and minding their own business while we stood and stared. I loved seeing them there, they were so calm. After pictures were taken we walked back to the cars and drove back home. It was a great end to a lovely weekend.

  1. 'Bacon?' Haha! She sounds about as good as the one we had a couple of weeks ago who managed to spill a whole latte on my step mum!
The Couples Retreat sounds fun, I love the New Forest (especially the four legged inhabitants) xx

  4. The New Forest is lovely! My auntie and uncle live there so I go fairly regularly - it's great in the summer but christmas is the best. I love how the ponies just wander about the place and then stand completely still, oblivious to people - reckon they're pretty zen. x
