Last weekend (I know, a full week ago what a terrible blogger) we wanted to make the most of the good weather and the long bank holiday weekend so on Saturday we decided to climb the Monument.
It only costs £4 to get in, but then you have to face the 311 spiral staircase all the way up. I don't know about you, but when I walk up spiral stairs I often forget how to walk and will go several seconds with a complete lack of coordination. It was all worth it though for the view at the top, especially if you're a bit of a London fan like myself, you can see the Shard, The City, St Paul's and of course Tower Bridge. I wouldn't recommend it if you're scared of heights, but the wiring completely covers any space and the ledge is quite wide.
You then have to shuffle down the stairs, squeezing past others and and losing all coordination... I also bought myself a novelty pencil which was really the icing on the whole experience. It's a great cheap day out and once down you can easily walk along the Thames which is exactly what we did.
I hope you all had fantastic bank holidays and the memories keep you going through this slightly greyer one!
I didn't know you could go up The Monument (sounds rude) til recently, beautiful photos ma'am.

Ha! Thank you very much
DeleteIt's such a bargain ... did you get your certificate and go in the pub at the bottom afterwards? I used to work on Eastcheap so climbed it one lunchtime (random!)

What an excellent way to do it! We did indeed get the certificate it was such a cool gesture! I didn't go to the pub - should have done though x
DeleteI had no idea that the monument was open to the public! Reckon the two way traffic on the spiral staircase would be worth it for the views - cool pics x
ReplyDeleteThat is part of its charm as it isn't rammed at the top! x
DeleteOoh I've wanted to do this for years and you've just reminded me! Looks like good fun :) xxxxx
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it! x
DeleteI'm new to London so I didn't know about this! Think I will have to try it out; it seems like a great way to see everything- though stairs are my nemesis! xx
ReplyDeleteThe good thing is that it is relatively unknown so you don't have to rush around! x
DeleteI'm literally obsessing over these photos. Such a perfect view! 311 steps on a spiral staircase looks like they were completely worth it! I think you've earned yourself a drink after that one hahaha x
ReplyDeleteAhh thank you Morgan! x
DeleteThe views are stunning! I'm debating doing this, but my fear of heights + that spiral staircase (recipe for dizziness and disaster) might keep me from it.
ReplyDeleteThe spiral staircase is a killer, you could always take it slow, but they're rather narrow x
DeleteOh, somewhere I didn't realise you could go! I'm taking a group of rangers to London in July, so this is worth remembering.
ReplyDeleteyea absolutely! definitely cheaper than the Shard
DeleteOoo the view looks incredible id love to do this :) I haven't been to London for so long, I really want a touristy day there soon! So jealous of your pencil ;)
ReplyDeleteLove Holly x
