Rome feels like a lifetime ago! As we visited in May the weather was absolutely boiling and it was great way to kick start our summer.
We managed to pack pretty much all the sights into our 5 days including Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, The Colosseum, The Vatican and a stroll around Villa Borghese. Lee had been to Rome several times before so was able to guide me around the city pointing out the sights (and also a cheeky McDonalds where we had a McFlurry).
My favourite of all was the Trevi Fountain, we visited twice and at night it was even better. I threw my coin in, but did forget to make a wish... We also had a truly delicious gelato from San Crispino, if you're going to Rome definitely do check it out.
Our day in Villa Borghese was just what the doctored ordered on our last day, a nice relaxing stroll with far less crowds than everywhere else. It is a massive landscaped garden with many fountains, walkways and monuments, you could also hire segways, bikes and pedal powered carts which we provided a great subject for people watching.
Of course the Colosseum deserves a mention. I wasn't expecting it to be so big - I know that sounds ridiculous but once inside you do get the full scale of the place. The weather was beautiful as well which meant that everyone flocked to it, giving it a real atmosphere. We didn't get a tour (although I wish we had) and I tried to listen in to other people's but it wasn't quite the same! They had interesting information boards around the interior, so don't worry if you can't afford a tour or the audio they offer. The gift shop was pretty epic as well, stacked with books, jewellery and of course plenty of tat!
Have you ever been to Rome? What was your favourite sight?
